Personal tile

For my personal tile I chose to combine two symbols. The circular part of my symbol is supposed to represent greatness. I chose that because I have the drive to be great. The second part of my symbol represents power. I chose this because I want to be in a powerful position when I get older. I believe the symbol I made is good for me because it represents my ambitions.

Architectural design

My structure is loosely based on the building designed by Zaha Hadid. From the original building I got the inspiration of doing different sized layers. I also got the idea of having things overhang from the top of the structure. I also wanted to add different designs on the side of the building that you don't see every day. Hadid's building is unique and I wanted my to be unique as well, and these designs accomplished that.

Punk Head

1.) The original band member is a trumpet playing bear. He looks like he would be an outgoing, wild, and stylish band trumpet player.

2.) I took the general body features from the original painting and embellished the facial features and accessories.

3.) I believe my piece is very successful in terms of craftsmans. I feel that I was able to convey the features that I wanted to well. Everything that is supposed to be smoothed out was, and I looks interesting from all angles. I decided to glove everything to make the whole head pop.

Pinch pot

I believe my pinch pot is well made, there are no cracks in it, all of the walls are the same thickness, and there is no heavy bottom. The hardest part about making this pinch pot was the bottom. The bottom kept sagging so I had to add more clay under it to keep it flat. The foot was a big reason why I was able to fix the bottom of my pot.
I believe that my designs were original. I chose two colors that I thought would look good together, and I also chose a design that I thought would go along with it as well. To creat my design I first did diagonal lines. In between the lines I did crossing lines to make it look like a scratched checker board. I also alternated the colors so it would bring out the design more.
I worked as hard as I could have on this project. The pot met or even exceeded the criteria we needed to have for it. I believe the pot came out really well because of all the effort.
I would give myself a 9/10 for effort because I may have been able to work a little harder on my pot.
I would give myself a 10/10 on visual success because I believe it came out better than I expected.

Wild creature

The wild creature I sculpted was a penguin. This is an adapted penguin from the future who has gills so it can breathe under water, it has no hair due to climate change, and it has powerful webbed feet for swimming.
I tried to stay as true to the picture as possible when sculpting it, but I also added different colors and textures to make it an original animal.
The hardest thing about working with clay for the first time was that I wasn't sure how the clay would react to the things I tried to do with it. The easiest thing for me in this project was getting the general shape for the animal out of clay. I learned how to atatch different pieces of clay together and still have it be strong.

Semester goals

1.) I took this course because I needed more art credits and ceramics sounded interesting to me.

2.) Because I took art fundamentals last year I am confident in my painting abilities.

3.) I would like to work on my clay working skills, and learn how to be more creative.

4.) I am interested in learning how to make pots on the clay wheel.
